St.Mary’s is a welcoming school and the governors and staff are committed to assisting those who visit it to feel at home and to conduct their legitimate business without difficulty.
It is our aim to develop and maintain close links with the parish and community of Lower Mourne, local schools, the School Health Service, Library Service, CCMS, SELB, DENI, Newry Teachers Centre and Community Relations Branch of the police.
We welcome students undertaking teacher training and childcare courses for work experience.
Musicians, actors, artists, authors and speakers are all welcome visitors to our school.
St.Mary’s has been fortunate in having twinned up with a most co-operative and friendly school, Newcastle PS, for the purposes of following the Cross Community Programme. A full programme of events is organised each year between the staff of each school to ensure that the a cross community spirit and sense of mutual understanding is enhanced and consolidated. The programme is part funded by a grant from the Department of Education.
As part of the Sharing Education Programme P6 are also involved with Annalong
PS in the learning of Spanish. A
parents class in conversational
Spanish will also begin in 2008.
