As we continue in the season of Lent a number of our children are preparing for upcoming events. We wish the P3 children well as they finalise their preparations for their First Penance which takes place this week.
P7 and their parents have a number of important meetings and services related to Confirmation in the upcoming weeks.

We would like to thank everyone for the great attendance at the parent teacher consultations last week. We hope that you found the meetings useful and informative.
Lent begins this month. We shall be encouraging the children to prepare for Easter by helping others, collecting money for the less well off through Trocaire
and focus on prayer their lives.

Many thanks to everyone who sent in parcels for Operation Christmas Child. Your kindness has insured that 80 children in Eastern Europe will celebrate Christmas that much better. It has also given our children the opportunity to appreciate the quality of their own lifestyles.
Please take a note of dates of important events that are happening in the school over December. I would like to highlight Wednesday 12th December as the younger children are presenting “The Nativity” at 1.15pm. We wish them well in their performance.

We hope the children enjoyed their mid term break and return refreshed for the run up to Christmas. Please take a note of the events that are coming up in the run up to Christmas.
The school has received the go ahead for our Cross Community programme and includes residentials for P4/P5 and P6/P7 and visits by the Armagh Rhymers for Story telling workshops. A trip to W5 is also included for the younger children.

Everyone has settled in well to the new school year and are back into the school routines.
Please make some time so that you can be available for your child whilst they are doing their homework. The amount of time involved should be linked to your child’s age and should range from 15 mins in the early years to 50 mins for the older children (Monday to Thursday). Usually homework should involve reading, spellings, learning words, time’s tables and a variety of literacy/ numeracy / research tasks for the older children

We are encouraging the children to do something special for Lent. Perhaps they could say an extra prayer for someone in need such as the children in Malawi or make an extra visit to the church. Helping around the home could be another idea. Thank you for your help in this.
All donations of Easter Eggs for our annual Easter Raffle will be greatly appreciated. Tickets shall be on sale next week at 20p each. So please send some ticket money in. Thank you.

TECHNOLOGY Challenge

P4 and P5 recently planted some
trees at the Silent Valley. This is
part of an ongoing project with the itage .A nature trail is
planned for P6 and P7 in Tollymore
Forest Park next week.

The teachers have been busy recently undergoing training for the Revised Curriculum which comes on board next year. Children and teachers in P1 and P5 will be the first to experience the new curriculum. We shall be informing you in more detail of how the changes will affect the teaching and learning of our children in the upcoming months. In St Mary’s we aim to keep pace with educational change as and when it happens.

Mrs McEvoy to the school following
her maternity. So instead of two
little people to look after she now
has a lot more to look after with
the boys and girls in P1 and

Hanna. She really enjoyed herself in

thank her and wish her well in her

Welcome back to school and a

( and parents) starting St.Mary’s
for the first time. We hope they
all enjoy their time here. With
every summer there are changes and
unfortunately this year we are all
saddened with the sudden passing
of Mrs Donnan. A lady who has been
associated with St. Mary's PS for
over 30 years. The school will certainly
seem strange without her. We shall
have a special service to celebrate
the life of Mrs Donnan later on
in the autumn.
