APRIL 2007 NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents

Many thanks to the parents who participated in the recent Sacramental meetings and services.

Congratulations to the P3 children who made their First Penance recently. Many thanks to Miss Walsh for her efforts in the children’s preparations.

Thank you to everyone for the donations of Easter eggs. The children will enjoy the fun of the raffle whilst also raising valuable funds for our Easter charities.

QUIZ: The Friends of the School  held another successful quiz in the Halfway House. Many thank to everyone who attended, made donations of money and prizes or helped in any way.

This week:A reminder that school finishes at 11am on Thursday. The Easter Egg Raffle will take place on Wednesday morning and hopefully the Easter  Bunny will make a visit at some stage this week and leave  a trail of eggs !! 

 Cross community Activities:  P4 and 5 enjoyed a wonderful one night residential in the Ulster Folk Museum last week. Many thanks to Miss Cunningham and Colleen for their help in the organization of the trip and giving up their time to accompany the children on the trip

Feis:  Congratulations to everyone who participated in the recent Feis.

 

Refurbishment of toilets: The toilets are nearly finished and should be ready to use after the Easter holidays. The toilets have been an issue over the past few years so it is great to have a modern facility for our children In addition the children will now have access to cool fresh water at all times. So please make sure each child has a water bottle so that they can access the water. We are also having fresh water.

 

 

Enjoy the Easter Break.

HURLING: Many thanks to Glasdrumman GAC for presenting us with a set of Indoor Hurl’s. With Miss Fegan in school they are being put to good use.

INTO 7’s Congratulations to the Lower Mourne team that qualified for the final of the  Down 7 a side competition. Paddy, Martin and Gerard were the representatives from our school. Best of luck in the finals.

  RECONCILIATION: Father Peter held  a penitential service recently for P4-7 . 

CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Mrs McEvoy and her husband on the birth of their son Sean. All are well and she can’t wait to get back to work in September!

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS: Teachers are providing children with the opportunity to improve their skills in football,hurling/camogie, netball and music.Please encourage your children to attend the sessions which are on after school on Mondays,Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Clubs are open for P4-P7 pupils.

St Columban’s All Ireland Victory: Congratulations to St Columban’s on their magnificent victory in the All Ireland football final last weekend. It was  a magnificent achievement and great to see four of our past pupils involved namely Ryan Doran, Jamie Carroll, Martin McGrath and Shane Harrison. Hopefully we shall get the chance to see the boys and their cups in school over the next few weeks.

Also congratulations to another past pupil ,Paul Quinn who narrowly lost an All Ireland title in his  title fight in the Irish Youth Boxing Championships last weekend.
