parents who attended the Sacrament
preparation meetings as well.

recently.
EMU WORKSHOPS
P6/7 have an Art Workshops on Sri
Lankan Art on Monday 27th
February and an Outdoor Education
morning at the YMCA Newcastle on
Wednesday 1st March.
Children should wear a tracksuit to
school and bring their uniform to
change into later. They will also
need a change of footwear, socks,
underwear and a towel.
A health sheet also needs to be
completed and returned. The YMCA
will not allow the children to
participate if this is not
completed. Thank you.
P4/5 will be attending Downpatrick
Museum on Tuesday 14th
March for a St Patrick/ Fluid to
Iron workshop
Teddy Bear
Thank you to Donna for organising
the name the Teddy competition. Over
£115 was raised for the school.
Jason O’Hare won the Teddy Bear.
Mervyn the Magician
He
will be here on Thursday 9th
March for a performance for the
children on the subject of
recycling. P6/7 swimming will change
to Monday 6th March for
this week.
HELPING HANDS
P6/7 have recently completed a
program on safety and personal
awareness. It was organised by
Women’s Aid. They organise and run a
variety of courses on a range of
issues.

WORLD BOOK DAY
World Book Day takes place
on Thursday 2nd March.
The children are invited to come to
school dressed up as a character
from a story, nursery rhyme or book.
They will also receive a free
voucher, which entitles them to a
reduction of the cost of a book.
LENT
Lent
begins on Wednesday 1st
March.
There will be an Ash Wednesday
Service at 2pm in the school for the
older children. We will be
encouraging the children to prepare
for Easter by changing their lives
in some small way. Please encourage
them in this at home. Thank You.
We shall also be collecting for
Trocaire and Heart Start during this
period. There will also be our
annual Easter egg raffle. Any
donations of chocolate eggs will be
gratefully received.
We shall be receiving visits from
the priests who are leading the
Mission in the Parish.
Thursday 16th March will
be a
Green clothes Day.
Children can donate £1 for our
Lenten charities for the privilege
of not wearing their uniform on that
day.
ATTENTION and LISTENING WORKSHOP:
There will be a workshop in the school for all parent on
developing strategies to improve
your child’s attention and
listening. This is a very important
area of language development. We are
quite sure that you will find the
activities and ideas beneficial to
all age groups and enhance your
child’s language development. A more
detailed letter will be sent out
shortly but please put the 22nd
March at 1.30pm in your diary. Thank
you.
CAMOGIE TOURNAMENT:
There will be an indoor camogie
tournament on Tuesday 27thth
Feb. We would like to wish the girls
the best of luck.
CREDIT UNIION QUIZ
Congratulations to Conor, Kerrie,
James and Jack who came second in
the annual Credit Union Quiz. The P6
team also performed well and came
third. Well done to Connor, Paddy,
Gerard and Martin.
Clothes for cash:
Please send into school black sacks
full of old clothes/curtains/bed
linen etc during Eco week, which
begins on the 6th March.
The school will receive £1 for every
bag of clothes sent in. Start Spring
Cleaning early.
BOOK FAIR: Thank you for your
support of the book fair. Over £350
worth of books were bought and as a
result each class received a large
number of new books.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS: Clubs
start again next week. Football,
netball and music continue on the
same days as before.
QUIZ NIGHT: Quiz Night is on
Friday 3rd March. The
Quiz Master will be Mr. Tony Bannon.
It will take place in the Half Way
House and proceedings will begin at
9.30pm. Please come along and
support the Friends of the School in
their fundraising efforts and have a
good nights craic.
