during the Christmas Season. In
addition thank you to everyone who
sent cards and gave gifts. They were
all greatly appreciated.
We would like to

DOWN MINORS
There was a great turn out of red
and black when the Tom Markham
trophy and Down Minor All Ireland
Winners James Colgan (Captain) and
James Cunningham (Past pupil of St
Mary’s)
Visited the school before Christmas.
There were lots of photographs and
autographs and also some advice for
the children … to work hard and put
the effort in and with a bit of luck
your dreams can come true!
As a past pupil of the school James
Cunningham was presented with a gift
outlining his achievement and link
with the school.
Even Armagh supporters were spotted
posing with the cup!
DOWN GAA QUIZ
Congratulations to Connor, Conor,
James and Patrick who qualified for
the County final of the annual
Primary school quiz. The final takes
place in early February. There will
be a bit of swotting up before then
on all aspects of the GAA and
Ireland. Good luck in the final
RECONCILIATION
The older children enjoyed a Service
of Reconciliation celebrated by Fr
Peter during Advent.

TECHNOLOGY Challenge
Congratulations to Cathal and Carrie
who participated in an interesting
technology challenge organised by St
Louis. They designed and made a
bridge, which was well received by
the judges.
DINNER TIME:
Best wishes to Mairin following her
mishap. School dinners will be sent
down from the School Meals Kitchen
in Kilkeel for the foreseeable
future. During this time there will
be no snacks and dinner including a
convenient sweet (dessert) shall
cost £1.75. Children should also
bring their own fruit, as there will
be none available at break times.
School Open Nights: Secondary
school Open Nights shall take place
this month. Details shall be sent
home with the P7 pupils. Information
packs regarding Transfer to
Secondary School shall be sent out
shortly to parents of P7 children.
SWIMMING: Begins again for
P4 /P5 on Thursday 12th
January and continues until January
26th. P6/7 will commence
their program on Thursday 2nd
February.
Energy Efficiency KS
2 enjoyed an Energy Awareness
workshop on Friday 2nd
December in school. Hopefully they
will be putting their newfound
knowledge to good effect at home and
save a few pounds.
ENROLMENT FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR:
If you wish your child to begin
school next year application forms
and information can be obtained from
the school office. Application forms
should be completed and returned by
31st January.
Could
you also pass this information on to
any other interested parents in the
area.
PARENT INTERVIEWS: Parents
shall have an opportunity to discuss
their child’s progress during
meetings in February. Details to
follow.
HOUSE COMPETITION
Congratulations to Binnian who won
the autumn terms House Competition.
Donard and Mourne finished joint
second a few points behind. The
winners enjoyed their prize - a
morning’s fun at Coco’s. We look
forward to the competition in the
next term. Please encourage your
child to gain as many house points
as possible through the efforts in
class. Thank you.
SPECIAL VISITOR
Many thanks to Mrs. Santa and
Rudolph who arrived with gifts for
the children before Christmas. It
was a very kind gesture.
PANTOMIME:
The Waterfront’s production of Jack
and the Beanstalk was excellent. The
trip to the pantomime proved to be
very enjoyable to children and
adults alike.

In early December the younger
children put on an excellent
performance of “The moment we
have been waiting for... “ To a
large audience of relatives,
friends and the Marine Friendship
Group. The older children also
performed a number of songs at the

A sincere thanks to the FOSA who
organized the Christmas Party during
the holidays. In addition many
thanks to the FOSA for providing
gifts to the children before
Christmas, for paying for the bus
transport to Jack and the Beanstalk
and for buying the school an
additional data projector (cost
£500).
