HOMEWORK
Everyone has settled in well to the
new school year and are back into
the school routines.
Please make some time so that you
can be available for your child
whilst they are doing their
homework. The amount of time
involved should be linked to your
child’s age and should range from 15
mins in the early years to 50 mins
for the older children (Monday to
Thursday). Usually homework should
involve reading, spellings, learning
words, time’s tables and a variety
of literacy/ numeracy / research
tasks for the older children
If you have any concerns please
speak to your child’s teacher

Communication:
Most families should have received
this newsletter inside a plastic
wallet. The wallet is to be used for
storing school letters/newsletters
etc. P1 parents should have received
theirs at the introductory meeting
in June. If you have not received
one please let us know. A copy of
the new school brochure
incorporating the annual report
should also be in your wallet please
familiarise yourself with its
contents.
The wallet also contains:

A letter regarding a £5 donation
to supplement our Cross
Community Trips.

Parent summaries of policies
regarding child protection,
pastoral care and behaviour.
International
Links:
The school will
continue its links with Presentation
PS, Tralee, Co Kerry and Portville
Elementary School, New York in the
upcoming year. Why don’t you ask the
children what they are doing ?
CONGRATULATIONS:
Well done to past pupil James
Cunningham who was a member of the
Down Minor Panel which won the All
Ireland last month. Hopefully the
cup will make a visit to the school
in the near future
CLUBS:
After school clubs have started and
the turn outs have been very
pleasing on a Monday afternoon for
football and Netball and for music
on Wednesdays.
Please keep encouraging your child
to attend.
Well Done :Glasdrumman GAC
are going well in the play offs and
hopefully they will be playing
Division 2 football next year. Best
wishes to players and committee
SELB Cutbacks:
As has been highlighted in the local
and national press the Education and
Library Boards are looking to make
cutbacks. They have already cut the
2pm bus service in the local area
and they have now turned their
attention to the role of the patrol
person. They are currently
evaluating the needs of all local
patrol personnel. HEALTHY EATING
BREAKTIMES

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
These will take place on the morning
of Friday 14th October.
Please make sure that the children
are wearing their uniform.
Individual and family groups will be
taken.
Please feel free to bring younger
siblings if you wish to have their
photograph taken with an older
brother or sister.
FIREWORKS: The children
enjoyed a talk about the dangers of
fireworks and fires recently.
The Annual
Raffle:
Raffle tickets shall be issued to
the children shortly. As this is the
main fundraiser of our year please
support this. We are asking each
family to sell 3 books of tickets.
The raffle will take place at our
Quiz Night on the 11th November in
the Half Way House.
Our Quiz Master will be Mr Tony
Bannon and a good night’s
entertainment is promised. Please
come along and support our school.
Pupil Records
Some parents have not returned the
data collection sheets regarding
mobile numbers, medical information,
permission for trips and internet
use. If we do not have this
information you should receive
another sheet in this wallet. Please
complete and return as soon as
