FEBRUARY 2005 NEWSLETTER

There are a number of important meetings organised during this month involving Secondary transfer and pupil progress. The staff  look forward to meeting you over the next few weeks.

SECONDARY TRANSFER
Parents of Primary 7 children will have an opportunity to discuss their child’s progress and choice of Secondary school on Wednesday 9th February. The 20 minute meetings will be by appointment and parents are invited to make an appointment by putting their name beside their  favoured time slot.

PARENT MEETINGS:
Parents of all other classes will have an opportunity to discuss their child's progress on Tuesday 8th February.  The ten minute meetings will be by appointment and will begin at 12.30pm. Parents are invited to make an appointment by putting their name beside their favoured time slot. The appointments board will be up at the school entrance all this week. If you cannot personally come to the school and make an appointment perhaps a friend or older child could do it for you. You could also send a note in to  the class  teacher with a suitable time. Failing that you can come along to the meeting  and take whatever time slots are left.

All teachers will be available from 12.30pm - 4.30pm   on Tuesday  8th February.

Mr. Madine will be available 9.10am - 12.30pm  &1.30 - 4.00 pm  for P7 Secondary Transfer Interviews on   Wednesday 9th February.

If these times do not suit then parents can  make a suitable arrangement with their child's teacher for another meeting.

 

CREDIT UNION QUIZ:
The annual Credit Union Quiz takes place on Monday 7th February at 7.30pm in St Colman‘s Kilkeel. We wish the children all the best.

NSPCC:
Could children please return their sponsor forms for this worthwhile charity by Friday. 

LENT:
 The season of LENT begins on Wednesday 9th February. The school will be encouraging the children to become involved in activities which characterise this time of year  i.e. Prayer, Collection of money for needy causes and Personal Sacrifice( Giving up something!). We look forward to your support in the nurture of your child’s faith.

MIDTERM BREAK:  
The school will be closed on Monday  14th and Tuesday 15th February for Mid Term Break.

School will finish after early lunch on Tuesday 8th February. Children will be able to go home from 12.00pm. This is to facilitate with Parent Interviews.

RESIDENTIAL:
Each P6/7 child will shortly receive a letter regarding the SHARE  Residential which will take place in May. 

BOOK FAIR:
The Annual  Book Fair  is on at the moment  it will remain until Thursday 11th February. Opening times are from 2.00pm until 245pm each day. Each home should have received a catalogue. The books are good quality and the school receives  a quantity of books in return.

TRIPS:
P1,P2 and P3 enjoyed their trip to the science exhibitions and workshops at W5. We apologise for the late return of the buses.

P6/7 enjoyed their  Art Workshops over the past two weeks.

P1 are going to Newcastle on Thursday morning of this week for storytelling. They will be back for lunch.

Reception children should not attend school on Thursday morning.

P2/3 are going to Newcastle on Friday morning of this week for storytelling. They will be back for lunch.

P3 Enrolment:
There is an important meeting for First Communion parents in  St Mary’s Church, Glasdrumman at 7.30 on Tuesday evening.

CONFIRMATION:
The Service of Light for P7 children and their parents will take place on Wednesday 16th February at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Church, Glasdrumman.

FIRST CONFESSION:
A reminder that this important event takes place on Wednesday 2nd March at 11am in St Mary’s Church, Glasdrumman.
