TALK TO ME MATHS HOMEWORK
BOXES:
We are part of a project
involving 7 Primary Schools co-ordinated
by the Numeracy Department of the
SELB. The project is valued at £60
000 and is adapted from a program
that has been used successfully
in Japan. Basically each child will
take home one night a week a Homework
Kit which contains a range of maths
equipment and activities.It is hoped
that the child and parent will spend
about 15 minutes on a specified
activity. The program will be launched
in our school shortly at special
parent meetings. However we do need
the help of some parents to make
final preparations of the boxes.
The tasks involve cutting and punching
card.It should only take about 5/6
people a couple of hours to complete
the job.If anyone is able to help
could you please leave your name
in the office this week.We hope
to organise a cutting session on
Wednesday morning at 9.30. If some
people want to do it at alternative
times we are flexible. Tea and biscuits
will be provided!!
CHRISTMAS
SHOE BOXES:
Following on the success
of last year we are involving ourselves
again with the Samaritans Purse
charity that collects and provides
shoeboxes that contain presents
for Eastern European children at
Christmas time. When one considers
how much Western European children
receive it would be nice to be able
to help the less well off. Leaflets
will be sent home shortly explaining
everything.
FRIENDS
OF THE SCHOOL QUIZ NIGHT:
A reminder that the first social
night, a quiz, organised for the
year will take place in The Halfway
House on Friday 5th November.The
Annual Raffle will also take place
that night. As this is one of the
main fund raisers for the year we
hope that there will be a good attendance.
ANNUAL
RAFFLE:
The annual raffle will take place
on the night of the quiz. Tickets
are £1 each or a book of 6
for £5. There are excellent
prizes and we request your help
in this venture. Tickets will be
sent home shortly. If each family
can sell 2 books we will raise around
.£500. Please return the money
when the tickets are sold. There
are extra tickets for those that
need them.
DISSOLVING
SCHOOL BOUNDARIES:
We have become part of a cross border
project co-ordinated by the Departments
of Education in N Ireland and the
Republic. We are linking up with
Presentation Convent PS in Tralee,
Co Kerry. Initially the link will
be with the older children and most
of the communication will take place
via the computer. The school will
be receiving new Video Conference
equipment to facilitate the project.
WEBB IVORY
CHRISTMAS ORDERS:
Please don’t buy any Christmas cards
etc just yet. We are sending out
catalogues from a company called
Webb Ivory who sell everything to
do with Christmas except the turkey.
Their prices are competitive and
the products are of good quality.
Ordering is done through the school
and the school receives 25% commission
on all orders. It is a good fundraiser
for the school and you save your
feet walking round the shops. The
catalogues will be sent out this
week.
HEALTHY
EATING:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
are Healthy Eating breaktime days.
Fruit, water and milk should only
be taken on those mornings
MERIT AWARDS:
Each week’s Merit winners
have their photograph and certificate
in the entrance foyer. Have a look.

on this project and we are all looking
forward to using the new facilities
