Dear Parents
There are a number
of important meetings organised
during this month involving Secondary
transfer and pupil progress.
The staff look
forward to meeting you over the
next few weeks.

SECONDARY
TRANSFER :
Parents of Primary 7 children
will have an opportunity to discuss
their child’s progress and choice
of Secondary school on Friday 13th
February. The 20 minute meetings
will be by appointment and parents
are invited to make an appointment
by putting their name beside their
favoured time slot.
PARENT MEETINGS :
Parents of all other classes
will have an opportunity to discuss
their childs progress on Tuesday
10th February. The ten minute meetings
will be by appointment and will
begin at 12.30pm. Parents are invited
to make an appointment by putting
their name beside their favoured
time slot. The appointments board
will be up at the school entrance
all this week. If you cannot personally
come to the school and make an appointment
perhaps a friend or older child
could do it for you. You could also
send a note in to the class teacher
with a suitable time. Failing that
you can come along to the meeting
and take whatever time slots are
left.
All teachers will be available from
12.30pm - 4.00 pm on Tuesday 10th
February.
Mr. Madine will be available 9.10am
- 12.30pm &1.30 - 4.00 pm for
P7 Secondary Transfer Interviews
on Friday 13th February.
If these times do not suit then
parents can make a suitable arrangement
with their childs teacher for another
meeting.
TEACHING
EXPERIENCE:
Miss Hanna will begin her
final year teaching experience in
St Mary’s this month. She will be
with P2/3.
Miss Hanna knows the school well
and we welcome her.
RESIDENTIAL :
Each P6/7 child will shortly
receive a letter regarding the SHARE
Residential regarding price and
programme.
The remainder may be paid for in
instalments.
BOOK FAIR :
The Annual Book Fair is
on at the moment it will remain
until Thursday 5th February. Opening
times are from 2.00pm until 3.15pm
each day. Each home should have
received a catalogue. The books
are good quality and the school
receives a quantity of books in
return.
TRIPS:
P1,P2 and P3 enjoyed their
trip to the science exhibitions
and workshops at W5. We apologise
for the late return of the buses.
P6/7 enjoyed their trip to Armagh
to study the Viking way of life.
P7 also participated in a Health
Education Conference recently discussing
a range of prevalent issues.
P3 Enrolment:P3 children and parents
recently participated in a lovely
Enrolment Service for First Confession
and First Communion. We wish them
well in their preparations.
First Confession takes place on
Wednesday 31st March at 11am in
St. Mary’s Church,Glasdrumman.
AWARD OF GRANT:
The school has been successful
in its application for a Grant from
the New Opportunities Fund PE Initiative.
The Grant is around £25 000
and will allow the field behind
the school to be upgraded to a multi
purpose sports field. A store and
outside toilets will also be built.
The aim is to encourage participation
in physical activity amongst our
children both in school and with
the support of local sports clubs.
Work should start before the summer.
CREDIT UNION QUIZ:
The annual Credit Union
Quiz takes place on Monday 9th February
at 7.30pm in St Colman‘s Kilkeel.
We wish the children all the best.
LENT:
The season of LENT begins
on Wednesday 25th February. The
school will be encouraging the children
to become involved in activities
which characterize this time of
year i.e. Prayer, Collection of
money for needy causes and Personal
Sacrifice( Giving up something!).
We look forward to your support
in the nurture of your child’s faith.
MIDTERM BREAK:
The Training Day for Friday
6th February has been postponed.
It is now a normal school day.
The school will be closed on Friday
20th February and Monday 23rd February
for Mid Term Break.
School will finish after early lunch
on Tuesday 10th February. Children
will be able to go home from 12.00pm.
This is to facilitate with Parent
Interviews.
FOOTBALL CLUB:
Glasdrumman GAC are hoping
to name their playing fields in
the near future. They would appreciate
the suggestions of the children
and their families.
If anyone has an idea please send
it to the school in an envelope
marked Glasdrumman GAC.
This is not a competition it is
just to gather suggestions.
The club thank you in advance.
COFFEE MORNING:
There will be a Coffee
Morning next Saturday (6th February)
in Annalong Community Centre from
10am until Noon. All proceeds are
for the Newry Hospice.
SPEECH AND DRAMA:
Congratulations to all
the children who participated in
the recent Speech & Drama Festival
held in Newcastle. Well done.
