APRIL 2004 NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents

Congratulations to the Primary 3 children who made their First Confession recently. A special thanks to Miss Walsh and Colleen for their help in the children's preparation.

Best wishes for the month ahead and enjoy the Easter break.

GREEN DAY :
The school enjoyed a very successful Green day. We would like to thank everyone for their help with the costumes and donations to charity

FRIENDS OF THE SCHOOL QUIZ:
Many thanks to everyone involved in the organisation of the quiz in the Halfway House. The quiz was well supported and an enjoyable night was had by all . A special thank you to Tony for his questions.
The Friends presented a cheque for £1000 pounds, to help with the upkeep of the minibus, to Glasdrumman GAC

FIRST AID:
The staff recently participated in a First Aid Training Day. Hopefully we will be able to deal with any problems that arise in school. Mr Madine recently completed his First Aid at work training.

On this subject the school has become involved in the Heartstart project. This project will enable the P6/P7 to be trained in emergency First aid. This training will begin in the summer term.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS:
Due to industrial action by the Teacher Unions teachers have been instructed not to participate in Directed Time . This means that they are not able to take after school clubs at present.

UNIFORM:
It is hard to believe but order forms for next years uniform will be sent out shortly. This is to ensure that parents will have the uniform before the summer holidays begin.

Many thanks for your support regarding the wearing of tracksuits. The appearance of tracksuits is much less frequent. Your support is appreciated in maintaining the positive image of the school.

GLASDRUMMAN GAC:
Best wishes to the club on the year ahead with the resumption of the Down leagues this week.

JESTER THEATRE:
The children enjoyed a visit from the Jester Theatre company. The actors performed an adaptation of KIng Arthur and the Sword in the Stone.

DENTAL SCREENING:
Parents of P1,P2 and P7 children should have received letters regarding this visit which takes place on Tuesday 6th April. Please return the letter if not already done so.

SUN TAN LOTION:
Order forms for sun tan lotion will be sent out shortly. The school will receive points for each item sold . The points can then be traded for sports equipment. Your support would be appreciated.

TROCAIRE:
The children are still collecting money for the charity. Many thanks to everyone who has donated eggs for the Easter Egg raffle. It will take place later this week.

EMU TRIPS:

  • P6/7 enjoyed an excellent trip to W5 recently.
  • Primary 1,2 and 3 had a lovely day at the zoo last month.
  • P6/7 have another trip on Tuesday 27th May. They will be visiting Greenhill YMCA for a day of outdoor and adventure activities.They should wear a tracksuit and trackshoes on that day. They do not need to wear school uniform.
  • P4/5 have a visit to Castle Espie on Thursday 29th April.

SHARE WEEK:
Takes place for P6/7 from Monday 17th May until Friday 21st May. A letter regarding arrangements will follow shortly. The balance of the trip should be paid by Monday 10th May.

SACRAMENT/SERVICE DATES:

  • Confirmation Tue 25h May Noon(P7) St Joseph's
  • Service of Light Wed 12th May 7.30pm(P7) St Mary’s
  • The P7 will also be involved in a Confirmation Service at the Saturday Mass on Sat 8th May in St Mary’s.
    There will be a letter from Fr Peter regarding Confirmation
  • First Communion Sat 10th May 11am(P4) St Joseph’s

EASTER HOLIDAYS:
School will close at 1130 on Thursday 8th April until Monday 19th April. There will be no dinners on the Thursday
The school is also closed on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th May for the Bank Holiday.
