News Summer
2003 NEWSLETTER Dear Parents
The
staff of the school would like to thank you all for your support and co-operation
throughout the year.
Do enjoy the summer holidays and we look forward
to seeing you in September. Please do try to encourage your children to keep reading
throughout the summer. Libraries have organised events and activities to
FOOTBALL/NETBALL: Congratulations to the football and netball teams who
played very well in the recent St Columban's and St Colman's tournament. THe girls
were extremely unlucky not to reach the final
We recently had a fun football
tournament amongst the P7 children of Attical,Moneydarragh, Ballymartin and Glasdrumman
schools. The children were split into three mixed school teams. There were medals
for everyone and the children all enjoyed themselves. Many thanks to Glasdrumman
GAC for sponsoring the medals and allowing the use of their facilities and also
to Dan McCartan for his impartial refereeing
TRIPS: P4/5 enjoyed
an interesting trip to Exploris in Portaferry to investigate fish and sea life.
TEETH: We are very pleased to say that this years annual Dental
report confirms that there has been an improvement and that we have moved off
the bottom of the league of 12 local schools. Thank you for your support in this.
REPORTS: The childrens' annual Record of Achievement will be handed
out on Wednesday. Please contact the school if you have any queries regarding
your child's progress.
CYCLING PROFICIENCY: Our P7 children recently
completed their cycling proficiency exam. In addition a number of the children
competed in the local heat of the NI cycling proficiency exam. The children acquitted
themselves well.
BALLOON RACE: Thank you for your support in this
recent event. The children really enjoyed the day and we raised some money which
will help pay for some extra redecorating within the school. Thank you to " Diamond
Pat's" for its sponsorship of the event.
BASKETBALL: THe school
recently had a visit from John Leahy an Irish international basketballer. He led
an enjoyable training session for our chiildren and some children from Annalong
PS.
SPORTS DAY: Thank you to everyone for the large turnout of
parents and visitors last week The children all enjoyed themselves and will receive
their prizes on Thursday.
BAR B Q: A good night was had at the
Bar B Q recently organised by the Friends. Although the turn out was disappointing
the patrons enjoyed a good meal and boogie. Many thanks to the Friends and to
the AOH for their hospitality. Thank you to the Friends for their purchase of
the Sports day medals and their generous donation for the P7 trip.
CLASSES
FOR SEPTEMBER: Reception and P1 Mrs. McEvoy P2 and P3 Miss Walsh
P4 and P5 Mr. Cunningham P6 and P7 Mr. Madine.
A reminder that P3
finish school at 2pm during the autumn and spring terms. They will leave at 2.45pm
after Easter.
MILK: This is a reminder that the school receives
milk subsidized by the EEC. The milk costs 8p a day and has to be ordered in advance.
GUITAR:Guitars will recommence again in September for P5-P7. Could
any outstanding payments be given to the school and they will be passed on to
Lynda.
PANTOMIME: Following on the success of last years trip
the panto has been booked again in the Waterfront. Monday 17th December.
MINIBUS: A sincere thank you to all of the minibus drivers and
Glasdrumman GAC who provide such an unique service to the school. A special thank
you to Rosemary McCavery who is "retiring " from minibus duty after several years
of service. If anyone is interested in driving the bus as part of the morning
run rota please contact the school.
SUN TAN: The school received
£30 as commission from the sun tan lotion that was offered to parents at school.

SCHOOL EXTENSION: As you can see the extension
is almost complete. We are all looking forward to using the new facilities in
September.
GOODBYE: It's that time of the year again and we say
goodbye to our Primary 7's. We hope that they leave St. Mary's with lots of happy
memories and they take away with them the values that we have tried to share with
them.
We also say goodbye to some families as their youngest child is
in P7. We wish you well and hope that you keep your association with the school.

UNIFORMS: Most of the uniforms should be here by Wednesday/ Thursday and
will be given out. As the children do not start until Tuesday uniforms can also
be picked up on Monday 1st September. If there any problems please contact the
school
REMINDERS Wednesday P6/7 have a final swimming session
at 2pm. Thursday is prize giving day. It begins at 10.15am. Friday is
a half day. There will be no dinners. The SELB bus will pick children up around
11.30am. It is a non -uniform day. School begins on Monday 1st September
with a training day for all staff. All children return to school on Tuesday 2nd
September.
